The Komets have a 2-0 lead over the Gwinnett Gladiators after one period at Memorial Coliseum. Thomas Beauregard has led the way with goals on a 30-foot shot and off a rebound.

Luca Caputi and Corey Elkins, the former NHL players send down from Norfolk of the American Hockey League, have looked strong.

So has goaltender Marco Cousineau, who stopped a 2-on-1 rush toward the end of the period.
