Ex-student sentenced in stabbing at college

MADISON, Ind. – A former student at a southern Indiana college has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaking into a dorm room and stabbing a man.

A judge ordered that sentence for 22-year-old Demetrius Jones of Columbus after he pleaded guilty last week to a felony charge of criminal recklessness for the October 2011 attack at Hanover College.

Authorities said Jones stabbed Vincent Johnson of Jamestown, Ind., following a fraternity party confrontation.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis told The Madison Courier (http://bit.ly/Uh3MzO) that the plea agreement balances punishment with a chance for Jones to have the felony conviction reduced to a misdemeanor if he stays out of trouble.

Jones had been studying to become a math teacher at the private college in the Ohio River town of Hanover.
