If only the Komets could play more of their games against the Kalamazoo Wings.
Led by two goals from Eric Giosa on Friday night, the struggling Komets defeated the Wings 4-1 in front of 3,942 fans at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.
For Fort Wayne (15-13-2), it was its fourth victory in the last nine games. All of those wins came against the Wings (11-15-3).
The Komets got a boost from their special teams early. Thomas Beauregard scored on a power play in the first period and Brett Smith scored a short-handed goal early in the second, giving the Komets a 2-0 lead even though they had been outshot 14-9.
After a Giosa goal, Mike Matczak answered for the Wings. Giosa cemented the victory with an empty-net goal in the third period.
Fort Wayne scored on 1 of 2 power plays, and Kalamazoo was 1 for 6.
Goaltender Kenny Reiter stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Komets, and Joel Martin stopped 19 of 22 for the Wings.
The Komets play host to the Elmira Jackals tonight, in their third game in as many nights.
