The Week Ahead

Merry Christmas

Our chances for a white Christmas aren’t looking good this year, and that is actually what we should expect.

By the numbers, we have only about a 30 percent chance of seeing snowfall of more than a trace on Christmas Day. Historically, the chances of having at least a half-inch of snow depth are only slightly better – at 36 percent.

Recent history hasn’t been much better for white Christmas fans. The only recent Christmas Day with more than one inch of snowfall was 2002, when 4.8 inches fell.

Weather wise: The whitest Christmas Day we’ve ever had in Fort Wayne was 1915 when 6.1 inches fell.
