Unidentified male found dead in alley

– A young man was found dead Wednesday night in an alley on Fort Wayne’s south side, police said.

Lt. Mike McQueen of the Fort Wayne Police Department said police were called at 8:47 p.m. about a person lying in an alley in the 3100 block of Reed Street, between Eckart Street and Drexel Avenue.

The person was not identified by police Wednesday. McQueen said the person was a male and estimated his age to be 16 to 25.

He was unresponsive when officers found him and later pronounced dead. It was unclear how he died, McQueen said.

“At this point, we can’t tell if there are gunshot wounds,” he said.

Neighbors told police they didn’t see anything or hear any gunshots, he said.

An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Wayne police at 427-1222.
