Look, I'm like most people who have no particular dog in the Notre Dame hunt. I think Jimmy Clausen's a little goofball, too.
But I kind of have to side with him on this. I mean, it is just a T-shirt. Just like "Catholics vs. Convicts" was just a T-shirt back when Notre Dame and Miami were swapping the national title back and forth in the late '80s.
Nobody made a particularly huge deal out of that, as I recall, except to chuckle about it. But it's a different time now. Folks get bent out of shape over the oddest things. Like, you know, T-shirts.
Speaking of which: You still see a smattering of those "Catholics vs. Convicts" T-shirts every once awhile on game days in South Bend. And so I guarantee you there'll be a ton of "Catholics vs. Cousins" shirts about when the Irish and Crimson Tide tee it up in the BCS championship.
Yeah, it's insensitive. Yeah, it plays into a whole pile of outdated and in some cases offensive stereotypes. But you know what?
I looked at that shirt, and I immediately thought about the 'Bama nitwit who poisoned those iconic trees at Auburn. And I had to laugh.
