INDIANAPOLIS -- Not much went right for the Purdue Boilermakers here Saturday, as they dropped to 4-6 with an 81-68 loss to Notre Dame in which they trailed by eight at the half and all but fell out of it completely with a two-points-in-9:24 stretch to open the second half.

The lone bright spot?

Former South Side standout Rapheal Davis, who scored 21 points in 18 minutes on 8-of-9 shooting -- a rarity for a team that made just 17-of-52 shots on the day otherwise.

"In this game second half, I saw we really weren't getting the ball in the hole, so I just came out and .... just really wanted to be aggressive and take the ball to the hole," said Davis, who scored all of his points in the second half. "That's my strength, really."

Sounded good to Purdue coach Matt Painter.

"He had a great game," he said. "He's a good scorer, and definitely gave us a lift there in the second half. He really got aggressive and really attacked the basket.

"He's always been known as a scorer, he's improving in other areas. But he definitely was a pleasant surprise for us. He just needs time, he needs minutes. It's hard because of the makeup of our team for that to happen, but if you play that well consistently, you're gonna put yourself in a position where you're gonna be out there a lot."
