Notebook: Ferrell continues to learn

INDIANAPOLIS – Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell was 1 of 10 shooting three-pointers coming into Saturday's game against Butler.

He made two in the 88-86 overtime loss, including one that sent the game into the extra period.

Ferrell had six turnovers, but bounced back after making some miscues. He had 12 points and eight rebounds.

"That's Yogi," IU coach Tom Crean said. "He did the same thing in New York and he's done the same thing in a couple of practices. He's got great toughness. He has great mental toughness and continues to understand how much he can improve.

"He's a 'next play' guy, and I think that's why he's such a special guard at that age."

Rebounding woes

Indiana lost the rebounding battle 40-38. The Hoosiers were outrebounded 24-17 in the first half.

"We got out-rebounded," Cody Zeller said of the team's biggest issues. "There are a lot of little things that we need to figure out, but that's what we'll do. We will get back to work and figure them out.

Tough defense

Rotnei Clarke scored 19 points. But Victor Oladipo defended Butler's leading scorer through much of the contest.

"Oladipo is just a hard guy to play against," Butler coach Brad Stevens said. "I actually anticipated them putting Ferrell on Clarke, because I didn't think they wanted to risk one of those other guys guarding Roosevelt (Jones). I thought it was hard for them to guard Roosevelt. Really hard.

"Oladipo is a heck of a player."
