2 busted in drug sting, 100-mph chase

– Two men face federal drug charges after they were arrested following a high-speed chase this week, police said.

About 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, an undercover Fort Wayne police officer met Pedro Garza and Luis Juarez-Cabrera in the parking lot of a Lima Road retail store to buy one kilogram of cocaine, according to documents filed in federal court.

When the officer arrived, Garza and Juarez-Cabrera invited him into the Chevrolet Malibu. Garza showed the undercover officer a bag containing a white powdery substance and the officer then got out of the car and signaled officers to arrest the men, court records said.

As police arrived to complete the arrest, the Malibu fled south on Lima Road. Police then began to pursue the car, which continued over the Interstate 69 overpass. One of the men of the men threw a cellphone out the driver’s side window, court records said.

The chase at times reached 100 mph, and one of the men threw a bag of white powder out the window. The chase eventually ended in the 7700 block of West County Line Road.

Both men exited the car after it hit a fence. Garza dropped to the ground and Juarez-Cabrera started running down the gravel road. He was caught a short time later and fought with police, who used a Taser stun gun to subdue him, court records said.

Both men are charged in U.S. District Court with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
