Morning blaze guts home near McMillen

Fire heavily damaged a southeast Fort Wayne home Thursday.

City firefighters responded to an alarm at 2509 Marcy Lane about 6:30 a.m. The owner of the home, just south of McMillen Park Golf Course, was not home at the time, officials said.

Firefighters arrived to see flames coming from the rear of the one-story house. Heavy flames caused crews to briefly exit the home, but the fire was under control at 6:45 a.m., officials said

The home’s interior basement and first floor sustained heavy fire, water and smoke damage. The blaze remains under investigation, officials said.
