Speed and alcohol were factors in a one-vehicle crash early Wednesday on Interstate 69, police said.
About 1 a.m., Fort Wayne police were called to the southbound I-69 exit ramp to westbound Illinois Road. Officers found a 2000 Ford Explorer near the sound barrier that had sustained heavy damage after flipping several times and landing on its wheels.
The driver, Jordan Bridgewater, was found hiding several yards away. Bridgewater, 20, of the 5800 block of Arbor Avenue, was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent, nearly three times the legal limit. He had minor injuries to his face, a report said.
He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing endangerment, operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.15 percent, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and unreasonable speed.
No other vehicles were involved, and the exit remained open while officers investigated the crash.
