Bears kicker out for rest of season

– Chicago kicker Robbie Gould will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left calf, another blow to the stumbling Bears with a big NFC North showdown coming up Sunday against the Packers.

The Bears placed Gould on injured reserve Tuesday and signed veteran kicker Olindo Mare to a one-year contract. They also placed cornerback Sherrick McManis (knee) and safety Craig Steltz (chest) on IR while signing linebacker Jerry Franklin to a two-year deal, elevating receiver Joe Anderson from the practice squad and waiving offensive lineman Andre Gurode.

Gould strained his left calf in warm-ups before Sunday’s loss at Minnesota. Gould, who ranks fourth all time in the NFL at 85.6 percent on field goals, converted 21 of 25 this season.

The Bears (8-5) trail Green Bay by a game in the division heading into their matchup at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Colts put two on injured reserve

The Colts placed running back Donald Brown (ankle) and fullback Robert Hughes (knee) on injured reserve and signed running backs Deji Karim and Mewelde Moore.

Moore has 2,261 rushing yards in nine years, and Karim has 290 rushing yards over three years.

Brown ran for 417 yards in 10 games this year, and Hughes played in five games.

Player memorials

The Dallas Cowboys paid tribute to Jerry Brown at a private memorial that included Josh Brent, the player charged with intoxication manslaughter in the one-car accident that killed his teammate, while hundreds of mourners attended a wake in New York for Kansas City linebacker Jovan Belcher, who killed his girlfriend and himself.
