LOS ANGELES – Kathryn Bigelows Osama bin Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty, Steven Spielbergs Civil War epic Lincoln and Christopher Nolans superhero tale The Dark Knight Rises are among the American Film Institutes top 10 movies of the year.
Also on the AFI top 10 announced Monday: Ben Afflecks Iran hostage-crisis drama Argo; Benh Zeitlins low-budget hit Beasts of the Southern Wild; Quentin Tarantinos slavery saga Django Unchained; Tom Hoopers Victor Hugo musical Les Miserables; Ang Lees shipwreck story Life of Pi; Wes Andersons first-love romance Moonrise Kingdom; and David O. Russells misfit love story Silver Linings Playbook.
The AFI also picked its top 10 TV shows for the year: American Horror Story; Breaking Bad; Game Change; Game of Thrones; Girls; Homeland; Louie; Mad Men; Modern Family; and The Walking Dead.
Creative ensembles for the films and TV shows will be honored at a luncheon in Los Angeles on Jan. 11.
