  • Read whole Bible to understand
I applaud David Pritchard (Aug. 25) for his willingness to stand for Bible truth.
  • Single exec plan full of unknowns
Until a few weeks ago, I didn't even realize there was an important referendum on our ballot in November. We are voting on some drastic changes to county government.
  • Police create atmosphere of fear
I can't escape the feeling that the world is somewhat out of control. But I must admit that I have a regrettable disconnect when I attempt to grasp complexities involved with events outside of our borders and off our shores.

Web letter: Obama’s overpowering government no solution

What are the next four years looking like with President Obama? President Obama is trying to transform this country into a national socialist country that will destroy democracy and our economy.

He has acted the same and worse than President Jimmy Carter in the late ’70s by over-regulating and over-taxing businesses and curtailing the production of our own energy.

The economic growth has to come from the private sector, from companies feeling confident about future business and opportunity. This will not come from President Obama, because he does not trust the private sector; he thinks they are profiteers taking advantage of ordinary people. He did not grow up and advance through the business world but advanced through the academic world with his own philosophies and radical beliefs.

President Obama wants to improve the economy through government actions by hiring more teachers, firemen and policeman; these are great professions but are paid by taxpayers and will not help the private sector.

His understanding of private companies is they are unfair and they take advantage of the less fortunate. But this is a free-enterprise country that allows anyone willing to work hard enough and act diligent to be able to benefit themselves and others.

President Obama plans to increase taxes on the upper 2 percent of taxpayers. This will not promote growth, and companies will not hire new people because of the increased cost and the uncertainty of the future business environment. Companies at this time are feeling uneasy about the implementation of the Affordable Healthcare Act and what expenses they will incur, and this is preventing them from hiring new employees. Four more years of President Obama is going to be more of the same and worse.
