Sonderleiter could be gone

Nothing official out of the Mad Ants' office yet, but there's a strong chance that Sean Sonderleiter, the team's veteran 6-foot-11 center, could have been waived on Tuesday.

Sonderleiter was not at practice on Tuesday morning before the team left to play Canton on Wednesday.

The former Iowa player who has been with the Ants for parts of four seasons appeared in six games this year and made three starts. But his playing time dropped off to the point where he did not play in Saturday's loss at Maine. Before that, he played three minutes and did not score at Springfield. He averaged 12 minutes, 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds this season.

Sonderleiter joined the Ants in 2008 and had his best year the following season when he averaged 11 points and 6.3 rebounds. He returned to the team last season in a reserve capacity.

The Ants are also expected to see Indiana Pacers players Orlando Johnson and Miles Plumlee again for the team's Friday and Saturday games against Maine and Springfield.

Johnson and Plumlee opened the D-League season with the Ants before being recalled by the Pacers. The Ants lost both games in which Johnson and Plumlee appeared, although Johnson scored 15 and 30 points, while Plumlee had 5 and 23 points.

The Mad Ants could also get a player or two from Detroit. While no players have been assigned from the Pistons, former Missouri guard Kim English could be joining the Ants. In 10 games, English has a 3.2 scoring average.
