Teen accused of skid-loader attacks on police

A 15-year-old Milford-area boy is accused of striking an ATV and then two squad cars with a skid loader.

Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police were called to the area of County Road 250 West and County Road 900 North at 8:40 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, officers met with the boy's parents, who said the teen was agitated earlier in the evening and locked the mother out of the house.

Later, the teen took a baseball bat and machete from the home and fled on the skid loader, the parents told police.

Because the field was freshly plowed, the father provided officers with a four-wheel-drive ATV. As the deputy and trooper approached the skid-loader, the juvenile suddenly turned the machinery around and rammed the ATV with the front pallet fork attachment, disabling the ATV, according to a written statement issued by the sheriff's department.

It said the skid loader left the field on County Road 300 West and then spun, striking the front of squad cars from the Milford Police Department and the sheriff's department squad cars.

Officers attempted to contain the teen for about an hour until he was pepper sprayed and later surrendered, the statement said.

The teen was taken to the Pierceton Woods Juvenile Detention Center.

The youth had an initial hearing Monday. The sheriff’s department said he was returned to the juvenile center and will stay there until his next hearing at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 27.
