Clerk pepper-sprayed in armed robbery

FORT WAYNE – A gas station clerk was threatened with a gun and then pepper-sprayed during a robbery early Monday on the city’s southwest side, police said.

Officers were called to the Valero station at 3730 Engle Road shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Police Department. When they arrived, the cashier said a man pointed a black and silver semiautomatic handgun at her and demanded cash.

A second robber sprayed her in the face before the two left. Police said the clerk’s face was still swollen and reddened from the spray when they arrived.

Both men were wearing hoods, and one covered his face with a camouflage scarf or mask, the clerk told police.
