IPFW loses at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – Chris Hines scored 19 points and Ben Simons added 15, leading Drake to a 74-64 victory over IPFW on Saturday night in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Hines and Simon hit three three-pointers apiece. Jordan Clarke added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (4-4), who went ahead for good, 31-29, on Richard Carter's layup 2:20 before halftime and led by as many as 16 in the second half.

Frank Gaines, who came in averaging 19.2 points per game, had a game-high 27 on 8-of-17 shooting for the Mastodons (5-6), and Michael Kibiloski chipped in 10 points off the bench. IPFW shot just 36 percent from the floor and committed 21 turnovers.

Drake never trailed, but IPFW tied it at 29 late in the first half. The Bulldogs, though, closed the half on a 10-0 run before Clarke's layup just after halftime made it 41-29.
