Throws make an ageless, one-size-fits-all holiday gift. Here are some more suggestions for those who would like to be all wrapped up in Fort Wayne.

Play ball! When it’s freezing next April, TinCaps fans might welcome wrapping up in name- and logo-bearing sweatshirt material blankets (heavy knit on one side and fleece on the back). They come in green, red and pink with white lettering and are 54-by-84 inches. The cost is $36, and items are available at The Orchard at Parkview Field stadium from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and through Dec. 31 at the team’s gear shop at Glenbrook Square. The shop, near the food court, is open during mall hours.

Also, if you’re nostalgic for the days when nice Fort Wayne girls played hardball, merchandise recalling the inimitable Fort Wayne Daisies is at www.prepsportswear.com. Fleece and sweatshirt blankets range from $31.99 to $46.99.

No more kold feet. Ice hockey spectating and a warm, fleecy throw in black or orange with the team logo make a perfect pair. The Fort Wayne Komets are replenishing their stock of throws available for $22 at Komets Kuarters, 515 Coliseum Blvd. E., and at games. But look for them soon. Store hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

It’s academic. For gifts for those whom school ties are not enough, try shopping campus bookstores for throws and blankets. The University of Saint Francis bookstore has fleece blankets with the university seal and name on pink with purple plaid or solid royal blue or gray backgrounds. The throws are 54-by-84 inches, fit the top of a dorm bed and cost $36.98. The bookstore number is 399-8075.

If you’re down with the ’Dons, try the IPFW bookstore for a two-layer woven afghan with the IPFW logo in black on a beige and blue background for $56 or a sweatshirt blanket in gray for $36.

Got Baals? That’s just one of the riffs on last year’s “What shall we name the new government center?” publicity that can be put on a fleece blanket ($60) or a full-length wrap (most at $22) by www.cafepress.com.

Marc Corwin, marketing director, says the 13-year-old site is “crowd-sourced,” which means that anyone with a design that abides by its content rules and technical specs can get a spot and sell the design printed on any of the 450 blank items available.

There are more than a dozen humorous Baals variations, including “I Want To See Your Harry Baals Government Center Fort Wayne IN” designed and sold by Matthew Hoelker, a 38-year-old marketing director and dad of four from Springfield, Mo., who says he has never been to Fort Wayne.

Hoelker says he got the idea from a radio news report while driving to work. “I thought it was so funny that I made up the saying and put it up on there,” he says, adding that he has several other designs on the site.

“Harry” hasn’t taken the market by storm – Hoelker has sold only about a half-dozen items in the last year.

And it was news to him that the government center wasn’t named for Baals, a former mayor, after all.

“Citizens Square? That’s so blah,” he says. “Think of all the sales I missed out on.”

Pretty as a picture (postcard). Other Fort Wayne entries on CafePress.com include the well-recognized, vintage full-color postcard with photos of city scenes sandwiched into the letters that spell the city’s name.

Other blankets and wraps have the words “Fort Wayne” in several typographic variations, “Occupy Fort Wayne” and “Trust Me I’m From Fort Wayne,” “Kiss Me I’m From Fort Wayne” and “The Best Girls are from Fort Wayne.”
