Now that one state rival has taken a victory this week at IPFW's Gates Center, another comes in. And tonight won't be easier for the Mastodons (3-4).
A really, really good Purdue team faces IPFW in a game that could get out of hand early unless IPFW plays considerably better than it did Tuesday in an 82-73 loss to Valparaiso.
The Boilermakers (7-1) are 15th in the Associated Press poll and 14th in the USA Today/ESPN poll. The only loss this season was against No. 2-ranked UConn, 91-57. Since then, Purdue has won two in a row, beating Georgia Tech and Central Michigan.
It's a welcome home for Purdue sophomore Liza Clemons, the former Snider standout who has seen limited time in seven games. Clemons averages 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. Her best efforts thus far have been 5-point games against SIU Edwardsville and Georgia Tech.
Purdue has three players who average in double figures, led by KK Houser's 13.9. Courtney Moses averages 13.1, and Drey Mingo averages 10.3.
IPFW is led by junior forward Amanda Hyde's 20.3 average. She is the only player who averages double digit scoring.
