Boilers lead by 7 at the half

The blowout that looked like would happen hasn't happened yet.

Purdue jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but IPFW battled back to get within two points, only to have the Boilermakers score the last five points of the first half to take a 31-24 halftime lead at the Gates Center.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Amanda Hyde and Stafanie Mauk cut the early 12-point deficit in half, and the Mastodons employed a variation of a 2-3 zone to slow down 14th-ranked Purdue.

The zone has Haley Seibert up top, with the other four players all below the free throw line.

Purdue went nearly six minutes without a point while IPFW got back in the game. Buckets from Rebecca Bruner and Hyde got IPFW within two points on two occasions, but Purdue scored on a basket by Drey Mingo and a three-pointer from Courtney Moses.

Hyde leads IPFW with 9 points, while Moses and Mingo have 10 each for Purdue.

Steve Warden blogs all things IPFW.
