Purdue wears down IPFW

Eventually, the Purdue train got untracked.

Eventually, the 14th-ranked Boilermakers that had been taken to the mat in the first half by IPFW got a full head of steam and took care of the Mastodons 69-54 before 1,124 fans inside the Gates Center on Thursday.

Purdue had zipped to a 12-0 lead, only to have IPFW (3-5) get within two points on two occasions late in the first half. But the Boilermakers (8-1) scored the last five points of the first half and outscored IPFW 11-2 to open the second to take over.

IPFW made its own second-half run when Haley Seibert dropped two three-pointers from the right side and Amanda Hyde made four free throws - all to get the Mastodons to within 43-36. But Purdue took off again on another 12-0 spurt to finally put away IPFW.

Hyde led IPFW with 26 points, including going 14 of 14 from the free-throw line.

Courtney Moses had 19 points for Purdue, and Drey Mingo, the Boilermakers 6-foot-2 center, added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
