Diaco honored

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach Tuesday.

The Irish finished the season as the top scoring defense, giving up 10.3 points per game, and was the No. 6 overall defense, giving up 286.8 yards per game.

Diaco, who was linked to the head coaching vacancy at Boston College before Temple’s Steve Addazio was announced as the Eagles coach Tuesday, is the first Notre Dame assistant to win the Broyles Award since it was established in 1996.
