Baylor women beat Irish

SOUTH BEND– Notre Dame lost to Baylor again.

The No. 5 Irish fell 73-61 to the No. 3 Bears in a rematch of last season's NCAA tournament championship game.

Notre Dame (5-1) has lost to Baylor (7-1) in all four games the teams have played.

The Irish, who trailed 33-27 at half, were tied with the Bears at 52 with 7:38 to play.

But Baylor responded with a 10-0 run to take a 62-52 lead with 4:17 to play, and the Bears never let the Irish get closer than seven the rest of the way.

Brittney Griner had 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Baylor, and Odyssey Sims had 16. Brooklyn Pope scored 14, and Jordan Madden added 12.

Freshman Jewell Loyd led the Irish with 24 points, and Kayla McBride scored 18. Natalie Achonwa scored 11.

Notre Dame star guard Skylar Diggins had only eight points on 4-of-19 shooting as the Irish were held to 35.7 percent shooting (25 of 70) for the game.
