FORT WAYNE – Notre Dame placed five players on CBS Sports All-American teams Monday, with two players garnering first-team honors.
Linebacker Manti Teo, who added the Butkus Award (top linebacker) and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player) to his ARA sportsmanship award Monday, and defensive end Stephon Tuitt were named to the first team.
Teo led the Irish with 103 tackles and seven interceptions.
Tuitt, who was listed as a defensive tackle by CBS Sports, led the team with 12 sacks and had 42 tackles.
Tight end Tyler Eifert and center Braxston Cave were second-team selections.
Eifert, a Bishop Dwenger graduate, had team highs in receptions (44) and receiving yards (624).
Cave started every game for Notre Dame this season and is a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, presented to the most outstanding center.
The other Rimington finalists are Louisvilles Mario Benavides, Clemsons Dalton Freeman, USCs Khaled Holmes, Alabamas Barrett Jones and Penn States Matt Stankiewitch.
Nose guard Louis Nix III was named a third-team All-American by CBS Sports. He had 45 tackles with 5 1/2 for loss.
Brian Kelly was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, along with Gary Andersen (Utah State), Dave Doeren (Northern Illinois), Urban Meyer (Ohio State), Will Muschamp (Florida), Bill OBrien (Penn State), David Shaw (Stanford), Bill Snyder (Kansas State) and Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M).
