Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert will find out if the second time is the charm Wednesday morning.

The Bishop Dwenger graduate is a finalist for the John Mackey Award, given to college football's most outstanding tight end, for a second year in a row.

The winner of this year's award will be announced at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The award will be given to the recipient during Thursday's Home Depot College Football Awards show, which is televised on ESPNU at 6:30 p.m.

Eifert, a 6-foot-6, 251-pound senior, led the No. 1 Irish (12-0) in receptions (44) and receiving yards (624) this year. He tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (4) with receiver TJ Jones.

The other finalists for the Mackey Award are Stanford's Zach Ertz and Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Ertz, a 6-6, 252-pound senior, led Stanford in receptions (66), receiving yards (837) and receiving touchdowns (6).

Seferian-Jenkins, a 6-6, 266-pound sophomore, led Washington with 789 receiving yards and was tied for first in touchdown receptions (6) with receiver Kasen Williams. He was second on the team in receptions (63).

Clemson's Dwayne Allen won the Mackey Award last year.
