Three escape fire

Two adults and a child safely escaped a house fire early Sunday in northeast Fort Wayne, the city fire department said.

Firefighters were dispatched to 5713 Hartford Drive about 1:40 a.m., and they found light smoke coming from the back of the two-story home.

The three people were out of the house when the fire department arrived. Firefighters went inside to rescue a dog and battle flames in the kitchen.

The fire was under control in 18 minutes and did not spread beyond the kitchen, the department said. No injuries were reported. The cause was under investigation.
