Carrie Underwood will star in NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music late next year.
A news release says the former American Idol champion and Grammy-winning country star will play Maria von Trapp in a live performance based on the musical. It will air around the holidays in 2013.
The role is Underwood’s most significant work as an actress yet. She played a small part in the 2011 film Soul Surfer and has served as co-host of the Country Music Association Awards for five years.
‘Hunger Games’ site still drawing crowds
Thousands of people are still coming to visit the western North Carolina forest where the movie The Hunger Games was filmed.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reported the number of visitors this year to DuPont State Recreational Forest reached 327,000 by the end of October. Attendance last year was about 250,000.
The film premiered in March. Crowds have traveled to see where Jennifer Lawrence, who played the lead character Katniss, crossed Triple Falls and plunged into a pool below Bridal Veil Falls.
London makes bid for Bollywood films
The mayor of London has announced that two Indian films will be shot in his city next year as part of a bid to bring Bollywood to the British capital.
Boris Johnson said Thursday in Mumbai that Indian filmmakers should make London their movie set of choice.
He offered tax breaks, cooperation on clearing streets and spoke of the huge audiences that Indian films have in London.
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala says he will film two movies, including the latest in the hugely successful Housefull series in London.
