Snider girls work overtime in win

It took two overtimes, but Snider’s girls basketball team defeated visiting Northridge 76-68 on Saturday.

Deja Wimby led the Panthers (5-1) with 18 points, 10 steals and nine rebounds.

Meredith Shipman scored 14 points with seven rebounds and two steals for the Panthers, who got 12 points and eight rebounds from Kiersten Eley against Northridge (6-1).

LAKEWOOD PARK 61, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 30: Suzanne Grimm scored 18 points for Lakewood on the road. She also had 10 rebounds.

Boys basketball

PENN 69, NORTH SIDE 54: Coach Al Rhodes, the former Northrop and Warsaw coach, got his 500th victory at home. Notre Dame recruit Austin Torres had 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Redskins’ Dwight Richards scored 22.

MISHAWAKA MARIAN 79, BISHOP LUERS 74: James Blackmon Jr., the Indiana recruit who suffered a knee injury last season, had 38 points in the road loss. Notre Dame recruit Demetrius Jackson scored 39 for Marian.

Boys swimming

WARSAW INVITATIONAL: The host Tigers won with 644 points, edging second-place Elkhart Central by 10.5. Jayden Parrett won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.9 seconds, and he won the 100 backstroke in 56.65.


HUNTINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: Carroll was the only team among eight to go undefeated at 4-0 in the pool rounds, and the Chargers went on to win the finals with a 61-15 victory over Garrett. Against the Railroaders, Steve Cardenas defeated Dustin Alwine 14-4 at 126 pounds. At 285 pounds, Carroll’s Ty Douglas beat Jake DenHartigh 6-0.
