The best storyline at Indianapolis next May hangs on one word from one man who's never limited himself to just one word.
The word is "yes." The man is Tony Stewart.
If Stewart takes up Roger Penske on his offer to put Smoke in a ride for the Indianapolis 500, everything else will take a back seat in a month, and at an event, not noted for back seats. Stewart in the 500? Talk about your Greatest Spectacle In Racing.
I still remember the mob scene a few years back when Stewart turned up in Gasoline Alley on Bump Day, with rumors of a ride with A.J. Foyt floating around. That deal never happened, but if Stewart winds up in a seat for the Captain -- who, ahem, has won 15 Indy 500s -- the ensuing media frenzy will put that day to shame.
Here's hoping the guy does it. Love to see him chase the dream that first got him into racing.
