Komets’ offensive woes mount

– The Komets’ offensive woes continued as they lost for the sixth time in the last eight games, 3-1 Friday to the Gwinnett Gladiators in front of 3,846 fans at Gwinnett, Ga.

Defenseman Daniel Maggio scored for the Komets.

The Komets defeated the league-best Gladiators on Wednesday night, but without center Brett Smith (groin) the Komets were outshot 34-22 in the rematch.

In the eight-game slide, the Komets (9-8-1) have been outscored 31-16.

Gwinnett (15-5-1) got goals from Dallas Jackson (power play), Evan Bloodoff and Corey Fienhage, whose goal was into an empty net.

Gladiators goalie Louis Domingue stopped 21 of 22 shots. Fort Wayne’s Kenny Reiter stopped 30 of 32.

Gwinnett scored on 1 of 8 power plays. Fort Wayne was 0 for 6. With Smith out of the lineup, the Komets put forward Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock back in, after he had been a healthy scratch the previous game. He instigated a fight in the final minute.
