Trouble with the MAC

Miami (Ohio) is the IPFW opponent tonight, as the RedHawks come into the Coliseum for a 7 p.m. start.

To say the Mastodons have had trouble with teams from the Mid-American Conference is an understatement.

IPFW and MAC teams have met 23 times, and IPFW has won just twice - once against Bowling Green and once against Toledo. The Mastodons are 0-1 against Miami, having lost 65-52 during the 2003-04 season.

IPFW senior guard Frank Gaines is expected to start tonight. He is returning from a one-game suspension due to conduct detrimental to the basketball program, according to coach Tony Jasick.

Gaines averages a team-high 20.7 points. He did not play in IPFW's 54-49 loss at Navy on Wednesday.

Steve Warden blogs all things IPFW.
