IPFW tops Miami (Ohio)

IPFW rallied from a 14-point second-half deficit and Mario Hines hit a game-winning layup with 3.4 seconds left to give IPFW a 57-56 victory over MAC rival Miami (Ohio) on Saturday at Memorial Coliseum.

The Mastodons (5-4) took a 55-52 lead on a free throw from Isaiah McCray with 1:09 remaining, but Miami made four free throws inside 20 seconds to take a 56-55 lead with 24.7 seconds remaining.

McCray dribbled out a dozen seconds before IPFW called timeout with 12.8 seconds left.

Frank Gaines' shot as he drove to the basket was knocked out of bounds, which gave the Mastodons the ball with 5.2 seconds left, prompting another IPFW timeout, setting up Hines' layup.

Joe Edwards was the lone Mastodon in double figures, with 10. Frank Gaines had 9, ending a streak of 26 games in which he scored in double digits.
