743 pounds of pot seized on I-70

EATON, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is racking up another record year for drug seizures.

Troopers on Thursday confiscated 743 pounds of marijuana after stopping a pickup truck for an improper lane change on Interstate 70 in western Ohio. Troopers said they saw indicators of criminal activity, and a police dog alerted them to the presence of drugs. An Arizona man was jailed in Preble County.

The 743 pounds is the second-largest marijuana seizure this year by troopers. Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Anne Ralston said troopers have increased emphasis on drug interdiction and watching for signs of such crime.

Marijuana seizures by the patrol are up 151 percent over last year, and heroin is up 295 percent.

And last year was a record year for the patrol on drug seizures.
