Gee, David Stern, you're as right as oatmeal on a cold morning. That was just a travesty the San Antonio Spurs made of your league the other night.
I mean, Gregg Popovich and the Spurs should draw "substantial sanctions" for sending home all their stars to rest before a showdown with Memphis this weekend. After all, look what a joke their game with the Heat turned into.
The Heat crushed them by five points! On a 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left! What a horrible show for the fans!
(This concludes the sarcasm portion of the program. From now on .... reality).
Look. I could see Stern getting all grumpy if the Spurs who played had showed up and laid down. The fans pay a lot of money for Stern's product. They deserve an honest effort.
Seems to me they got one, in this case. And, yeah, so Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili weren't there. But the product itself was still entertaining.
So Stern needs to, shall we say, settle down. Because this is frankly an abuse of power on his part. If he can punish a team for lineup decisions, where does it stop? Is he going to fine Doc Rivers the next time he takes Kevin Garnett out of a game for a period of time Stern deems too long?
No, sorry. This is Popovich's team and he has every right to handle it the way he sees fit. So, Dave, butt out.
