Carroll off to slow start

Carroll's 0-3 start is frustrating, but not without hope.

The young Chargers have three losses to teams which have started the season a combined 6-0, and are receiving honorable mention votes in the polls.

"All the teams we have played are ranked or right there close to being ranked," Carroll coach Marty Beasley said. "It's not like we are playing Cupcake City. We could schedule those cupcakes and be 3-0, but I would rather play someone who is good."

The losses have come progressively closer for Carroll, which has one of the best individual players in the area in sophomore Chandler White.

The opener was a 74-52 loss to South Bend Adams, then a 59-58 defeat to Noblesville, and on Friday, a 67-61 overtime loss to Concordia.

Along with White, freshman Kyle Mallers will play a big part for the Chargers this year.

"We have some guys who aren't used to playing in front of big crowds," Beasley said. "Middle school games aren't very big. They have to learn, and that's part of growing up. I would rather them learn now playing against good teams than not learning against bad teams and get a false sense of how good they are."
