Mad Antics

Ants drop opener

Because the Mad Ants waited too long to climb from a 23-point hole, their fourth-quarter rally fell short in a 109-100 season-opening loss to the Erie BayHawks on Friday at Memorial Coliseum.

The Ants trailed 74-51 with 5:19 remaining in the third quarter, and got within six points, 106-100, but ran out of time in the head coaching debut of Duane Ticknor.

Four of the five starting Ants came into the game with NBA experience, including two players the Indiana Pacers sent to Fort Wayne - forward Miles Plumlee and guard Orlando Johnson.

Ron Howard led the Ants with 27 points.
