Indiana poultry farms donate 200,000 pounds of poultry

INDIANAPOLIS — Some of Indiana's biggest poultry producers have donated more than 200,000 pounds of poultry to the state's food pantries in time for the upcoming holidays.

Representatives of the Indiana State Poultry Association brought some of the donated meat Tuesday to Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman's Statehouse office. That food was taken to an Indianapolis food pantry but the remainder of the donations will be shipped directly to food pantries around the state that serve needy Indiana residents.

Skillman says the meat donated by 11 of Indiana's poultry producers is greatly appreciated during the holidays and will "provide nourishment for those who might need a little extra help."

Indiana State Poultry Association Executive Vice President Paul Brennan says Indiana's poultry producers have donated food to local communities for 65 consecutive years.
