Standing in his gray suit, Troy Turner turned to his victim in the front row of the Allen County Superior Courtroom on Wednesday and apologized.A local man who used a stun gun when he robbed a local grocery store in February was sentenced Tuesday to 50 years in prison.
Billye Gaulden, 36, of the 4400 block of Hanna Street, used a stun gun to try to steal deodorant, soap, hair gel and feminine hygiene products.
He placed them into a backpack at the Kroger at 218 E. Pettit Ave. on Feb. 16, according to a probable cause affidavit. When a Kroger employee tried to stop him, Gaulden used the stun gun on the man’s face before fleeing the store.
When Gaulden was caught by police a few days later, he fought with police and was himself shot with a Taser stun gun.
In October, a jury convicted Gaulden of two counts of resisting law enforcement, robbery and being a habitual offender. Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Gaulden to 20 years for the robbery, but because of the habitual offender charge, added an additional 30 years to the sentence.
