Statement as issued Wednesday by Allen County SPCA:
The Allen County SPCA ended the month of October with 91 pet adoptions, the highest in the shelters history. 36 canines and 55 felines were successfully adopted through the shelter. This is an increase of 45% from last year and 66% over 2010.
We are thrilled that our efforts to find more animals their forever homes are working, said Jessica Henry, the shelters director. We are striving to improve our adoption process and utilize new avenues to reach the public, making people more aware of our adoptable shelter pets. Obviously pet adoption is a key component to reducing the incidence of euthanasia in our community, and we are committed to saving as many animals lives as possible.
The ACSPCA transfers the majority of its pets from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control and surrounding shelters but also accepts owner-surrendered cats and dogs on a limited basis. All pets are spayed or neutered, fully-vaccinated and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption fee is $70 for cats and $85 for dogs.
The mission of the Allen County SPCA is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals by providing a safe haven for animals, an effective and comprehensive adoption program, education and outreach programs for the community and deep and broad membership and volunteer programs.
