Cellphone video nets molesting conviction

A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for child molesting Monday after evidence depicting the abuse was found on his cell phone.

Devonne A. Eldridge, of the 2500 block of North Wells Street, was charged in July with multiple counts of child molesting, as well as child exploitation.

In October, he pleaded guilty to one of the counts of child molesting and the child exploitation charge.

Discovery of the incriminating videos began with an accusation that Eldridge took a picture of a 6-year-old girl in April.

But after Eldridge’s phone was confiscated, a Fort Wayne police detective found no such picture. Instead, they found videos of a man molesting a girl multiple times, according to court documents.

Eldridge was identified on the video by his attire and a rosary tattoo on one of his hands, the affidavit said.
