Army-Navy: Uniformly absurd

It will no doubt come as a shock to some of you, especially those who've seen me in my standard frayed-khakis-and-faded-golf-shirt ensemble, but I will never be confused for a fashion maven.

Plus, I'm a card-carrying member of the Get-Off-My-Lawn club. So you can take what I'm about to say with the appropriate grain of salt.

Which is: Once again the fashionistas have taken college football hostage. And this time it involves the U.S. military.

Check this out. It's the uniforms Army and Navy will roll out this weekend for their annual rivalry, which is always one of the great pageants in college football.

Two questions:

1. What's the deal all of a sudden with the two-tone helmet thing? Did I miss the part where we were all flung back into 1955?

2. Kind of cool that the sleeves and numbers of the Army uniforms will feature a map of the Battle of the Bulge. I'm thinking Navy should have answered with a map of the Battle of Midway.
