Coach Al Sims and captain Colin Chaulk retired, and now so has the goaltender who backstopped them to four championships between 2008 and 2012.This photo by Swikar Patel probably sums up how many Komets fans were feeling this weekend, after the Komets lost 2-1 to Toledo on Saturday and 5-0 to Evansville tonight.
The Komets' biggest problem has been their special-teams play. Tonight, they gave up three power-play goals (I know, one of them came a split second after the power play ended) and two short-handed goals.
The Komets' power play is 0 for its last 20 through 13 periods.
That's just awful for a team that was on a five-game winning streak not long ago, and is now on a three-game losing streak.
And the Komets got awsome goaltending this weekend from Kenny Reiter and Charlie Effinger; what if that hadn't happened?
I know the Komets are missing a lot of guys, but it doesn't explain this, necessarily. Having Matt Kennedy and Eric Giosa wouldn't solve all of the problems with the skilled forwards.
"It was a frustrating game for us," Komets coach Al Sims said, "and an embarrassing loss, obviously."
There's not a whole lot that can be said.
