Coach Al Sims and captain Colin Chaulk retired, and now so has the goaltender who backstopped them to four championships between 2008 and 2012.We've heard for months how the NHL lockout has forced this glut of talent around the minor leagues, and how it was the most competitive Komets training camp in years. Well, now that the Komets have lost three in a row, and looked dreadful along the way, maybe they should put that to the test and bring some guys in for tryouts.
It's true, the Komets have a lot of injuries, but I'm not sure that explains the lack of enthusiasm and lack of smarts we saw over the weekend. I've felt all season the Komets need another offensive defenseman, but it also seems some of the Komets' skill players have disappeared lately, too.
Sometimes just bringing guys in for a looksie can kick players into gear. Anyway, it's an idea.
