As you’re planning the Thanksgiving food menu, Cap n’ Cork wants to be sure the liquor menu is just as good and oh-so-perfectly paired. It suggests the following four beverages to best match your themes.
Biltmore Reserve Chardonnay – This oaky wine gives off lemon, pear and apple aromas. Chardonnays pair well with poultry, pork, seafood or anything with a heavy cream or butter base.
Conundrum California White Wine – This wine is a blend of a variety of other white wines: Chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, muscat canelli, viognier and semillion. The wine is sweet with honeysuckle aromas mixed with some peach, vanilla, melon, pineapple and pear. Sweet white wines pair well with prosciutto, smoked fish, fresh fruit, hard cow and sheep cheeses and chicken salad.
Meiomi Pinot Noir – This pinot noir mixes blackberry and cola aromas with layers of cherry, vanilla and oak. The wine pairs well with shellfish, turkey, chicken, mushrooms and pork.
Founder’s Breakfast Stout – This sweet stout does double-duty as a dessert beer. It has a thick, chocolaty body and is brewed with coffee, so it’s caffeinated. Sweet stouts pair well with chocolate and heavy desserts.
Dining with Santa
A few local food shops are planning outings with Santa.

On Saturday, Santa will be at Yum Yums, Yogurt-U-Make (10454 Maysville Road) in conjunction with a fundraiser for Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. A percentage of all sales will go back to the group.

The Thanksgiving cupcake menu features three new fall creations: Caramel Apple, a cinnamon apple cupcake topped with caramel butter cream, caramel drizzle and an apple chip; Clementine, an orange cupcake topped with orange butter cream and a sugared orange zest; and Pumpkin, a pumpkin cupcake brushed with maple syrup and topped with cream cheese butter cream and walnut brittle.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health has recently approved the following businesses to open:
Old World Fudge, inside Glenbrook Square, at 4201 Coldwater Road. The store opened Thursday, co-owner Cris Lamb says, and is located outside J.C. Penney, near the fountain. The store’s specialty is fudge, and it’s all made in Old World Fudge’s commercial kitchen near Parkview Field. The store had been located on the other end of Glenbrook, next to Starbucks and across from Barnes & Noble for three years. Aside from 40 flavors of fudge, Old World has gourmet chocolates and a pick-your-own-mix of saltwater taffy.

Coliseum Donuts, 1530 Coliseum Blvd. N.
Madea’s Soul, 2006 S. Hanna St.
