15-year-old girl struck, killed by train

A pedestrian who died early Tuesday in Kosciusko County has been identified as a Wawasee High School freshman.

Kalee Nicole Skaggs, 15, of Cromwell, was struck shortly before 2:40 a.m. by a westbound CSX freight train in the northeast corner of the county, according to a written statement issued by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office.

She died at scene.

According to initial reports, the girl was walking across the railroad crossing on County Road 1000 North, just south of County Road 1250, before being struck.

The fatality remains under investigation.
