A gripping account of a doomed attempt to climb Mount Everest has won Britains leading nonfiction book prize.
Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest by Canadian author Wade Davis was awarded the $32,000 Samuel Johnson Prize on Monday.
British mountaineer George Mallory – the man who famously declared he wanted to climb Everest because it is there – died on the worlds highest peak in 1924, and debate still rages about whether he reached the summit.
Fans mark grave
Fans of the Little Rascals film series were in Baltimore this weekend to place a headstone at the grave of child actor Norman Chubby Chaney.
Chaneys grave had been unmarked for 76 years since he died at age 21. Chaney was paid a weekly salary when he appeared in the films between 1929 and 1931. But he didnt receive any royalties or residual payments.
The Baltimore Sun reported Sunday that he struggled with his weight as a teenager. When he died, his mother couldnt afford a headstone for his grave.
Band lends songs
What tunes fit a post-apocalyptic society? For NBCs freshman drama Revolution, the answer is Led Zeppelins Kashmir and Since Ive Been Loving You.
The songs will be featured in next weeks episode of Revolution. On the same day, Led Zeppelins Celebration Day album and a documentary on DVD will be released.
Corporate synergy led to the deal for the band that rarely allows use of its music in Hollywood projects. Revolution is produced in association with Warner Bros. Television, and Led Zeppelin has a deal with Warner Music Groups publishing arm.
