Women lose hoop opener

The young IPFW women's basketball team endured its first growing pain of the season in its 74-67 loss to SIU Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon.

The Mastodons, who don't have a senior on the roster, held a 39-29 halftime lead, but let it slip away.

Sophomore guard Haley Seibert hit five three-pointers to lead the team in scoring with 15 points. Amanda Hyde had 14, and Rachel Mauk had 12.

The interesting aspect to the game is that SIU Edwardsville outscored IPFW 42-14 in the paint. Going into the season with six players 6-feet or more, IPFW felt as though it had the size to compete inside.

Steve Warden blogs all things IPFW.
