GOP readies for recount

The Republican National Committee is seeking volunteers “ready to fight for every vote” if the Nov. 6 presidential election is so close it warrants a recount, according to mailings to supporters.

The RNC has provided financial backers with a “2012 Presidential Election Recount Volunteer Form” asking for their names, home addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. The form does not specify what tasks or skills will be required of volunteers in the event of a recount.

The RNC either has not updated its database or is not picky about its volunteers. It sent such a mailing to a Journal Gazette staffer’s mother who would have been 95 had she not died in May.
