Let's face it, hockey players can be awfully mouthy.
Even when it comes to who grows the best facial hair.
So when the subject of Movember came up -- for those unaware, that's the charitable endeavor that involves growing mustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer awareness -- the Komets just assumed they could beat me.
The problems for them are: I have awesome facial hair, and the pen is mightier than the, um, hockey stick.
At least I hope.
Click here to look at my home page at Movember, and I hope you will consider making a donation now and throughout the month of November as I grow my stache. (Note: the page doesn't seem to work very well on Google Chrome. Firefox is peachy, though.)
I'm thinking of recreating my father stache of the mid-1980s, though I am also giving consideration to the Andy Reid Walrus style, much to my wife's chagrin.
And please pass along to your friends that I'm trying to raise money for this.
It's for a great cause.
But, I also understand, I'm no the big hockey star. And you may want to share some of your hard-earned dollars with those Komets players.
Chris Auger and Brett Smith are leading the movement there among the Komets. You will be able to access the individual players as they add themselves -- which should start happening today -- by looking at this page.
It's important that you keep checking back at Ice Chips so you can get updates on the whole cause, and so you can learn about some prizes I will be giving away.
So what do you say? I've been giving you all these blogs, tweets, videos and coverage. Could you give me a little money for a great cause? And help prove that an Average Joe can be as altruistic as a hockey player?
Let's get going -- today and all through the month of November.
